Youth Programs Director Job Announcement

Bike Santa Cruz County (BSCC) promotes bicycling in Santa Cruz County through advocacy, education, and community building. We advocate for improved conditions for bicyclists, help build community and bicycle culture through our youth programs, and by hosting events such as Open Streets and community bike rides. We are seeking a Youth Programs Director to lead and expand our already vibrant youth programs that aim to inspire and empower youth throughout our county to bicycle for transportation and recreation. 


About Bike Santa Cruz County’s Youth Programs

Since its founding in 1991, BSCC (previously known as People Power) has worked to improve conditions for bicycling in Santa Cruz County. Since 2008, our youth programs have served thousands of local middle and high school students through our presentations, group rides, events, Earn-a-Bike programs, and after school Bike Clubs. Our Earn-a-Bike programs serve middle school students in Watsonville, Live Oak, and Santa Cruz, and to-date have provided refurbished bikes, helmets, bike lights, secure locks, and repair kits to over 280 participants. Our youth programs also serve to build confidence, self-esteem, and leadership skills among participants, and to raise awareness about healthy lifestyle choices. 

Responsibilities

Bike Santa Cruz County seeks an experienced, collaborative, and inspiring youth educator with program management experience to direct our expanding youth programs.  The Director is responsible for professionally managing all aspects of BSCC’s youth programs, and is supervised by the Executive Director (ED). 


The Youth Programs Director shall:

  • Deliver high quality programs for middle and high school students in Santa Cruz County

  • Manage and empower youth program staff, volunteers, and high school interns

  • Work closely with the ED to monitor program performance and quality, and implement strategies to achieve programmatic and fundraising goals

  • Administer youth program grants, track resource use, and report to granting agencies


Required Qualifications

  • Passion for and experience working with youth

  • Passion for bicycling and community building, with a deep commitment to BSCC’s mission

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Proven track record of program management, including directing contractors, volunteers, and interns

  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff, volunteers, and representatives of the community and partner organizations

  • Availability to work occasional nights and weekends

  • Skillful in setting and following priorities 

  • Computer proficiency in MS Office and social media platforms such as Facebook and Instagram


Desired Qualifications

  • Bilingual in Spanish and English

  • Curriculum development experience

  • Grant writing and fundraising experience

  • Proven public speaking skills

  • Familiarity with Santa Cruz County schools, school systems, and youth programs

Compensation

This is a salaried, full-time position. Starting pay range is based on an hourly pay rate of $16 to $20/hour depending on experience and qualifications. Benefits include health insurance, vacation, and sick leave.
